A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested a 46-year-old St. Louis man after seeing the man with a stolen pickup at the ZX gas station, 2854 Hwy. 67, southwest of Festus. The 2003 Chevrolet Silverado had been reported stolen from Final Clean, 1424 Gravois Road, in High Ridge, authorities reported.

The deputy saw the pickup on March 12, and after checking the Silverado’s license plate, he learned the plate had been reported stolen. The deputy detained the man who was with Silverado, which was towing a trailer, the report said.

The deputy then learned the pickup had been reported stolen on Feb. 4 and arrested the man, according to the report.

The deputy allegedly found a powder substance suspected of being illegal drugs in the pickup, and a motorcycle and other items were found in the trailer, the report said.

The Sheriff’s Office did not report if the trailer, motorcycle or items in the trailer were stolen.

The man was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, where he was booked and released pending the application for charges, according to the report.

The Sheriff’s Office will seek a charge against the man through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for first-degree tampering, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property, spokesman Grant Bissell said.
