Susan Flippin, 41, of High Ridge has been sentenced to three years in prison for armed criminal action. A Jefferson County jury had found her guilty of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action and second-degree domestic assault, but the judge suspended the sentences she received for assault, court records show.
The jury found Flippin guilty on Oct. 4, and it declared Flippin’s punishment should be seven years in prison for first-degree domestic assault, three years for armed criminal action and two years for second-degree domestic assault, according to court documents.
However, Jefferson County Div. 4 Circuit Judge Brenda Stacey on Nov. 29 suspended Flippin’s sentences for domestic assault and only sentenced her to prison for armed criminal action. Stacey also placed Flippin on five years’ probation for the assault charges, court records said.
“Our office asked that the court follow the jurors’ declared punishment of seven years in the Department of Corrections and argued against probation,” Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Trisha Stefanski said. “The sentence was a huge disappointment.”
According to the case’s probable-cause statement, Flippin and Selina Ann McBride, 33, of Cincinnati, Ohio, attacked a man on June 6, 2022, at a High Ridge home.
McBride pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic assault on Feb. 15, and she was sentenced to six years in prison, court records show.
The probable-cause statement said Flippin confronted the victim at about 9 p.m. The victim told investigators that Flippin and McBride hit him with a tire iron and metal cooking pots.
A neighbor responded to the home when the victim yelled for help, and Flippin and McBride fled from the house. The victim was taken to Mercy Hospital South, where he was treated for multiple cuts on the back of his head and a broken pinky finger, the report said.
