Nyree Frishkorn recently fulfilled her dream of opening a bakery.
Frishkorn opened NyNy’s Sweet Delights on March 4 at 10667 Business 21 in Hillsboro where Confectionery Charm used to operate. On March 24, NyNy’s celebrated its grand opening with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.
The sweets shop offers doughnuts, coffee cake, muffins, cookies, brownies, brookies, cupcakes, mini cakes, cheesecake, bundt cake, cinnamon rolls and cake pops. It is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
Frishkorn, 50, of House Springs said she has worked in the fast-food industry for about 20 years and currently works at Lion’s Choice. She previously worked at White Castle and the Hardee’s that used to be open in Hillsboro.
She said she has long enjoyed baking for friends and family but wanted to refine her cake-decorating skills, so during the COVID-19 pandemic, she enrolled in the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts and earned her diploma online.
Currently, Frishkorn is working days at NyNy’s Sweet Delights and nights at Lion’s Choice, but she said she doesn’t consider running the sweets shop a job.
“It’s something I love to do,” she said. “It’s not even like a job. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
Frishkorn said she changes up the specialty cookies, cupcakes, mini cakes and cheesecake she sells at the shop, so there’s always something different to try.
Customer favorites, she said, include the classic chocolate chip cookies and brookies. She said she’s been making Reese’s peanut butter cupcakes daily because those have been popular, too.
She said her gooey butter cake cookies and peanut butter cookies are also a hit.
Frishkorn said the community has been welcoming.
“People are starting to realize I’m here,” she said, noting that two other sweets shops have operated from the location in recent years.
Customers may place special orders for cakes or cookies. To place a special order, find the business on Facebook or email nynyssweetdelights@gmail.com.
Frishkorn said she plans to add items to her menu depending on customers’ wants. She would like to add breads in the next couple of weeks, and she is looking at adding some keto-friendly items. She also would like to add breakfast croissants and biscuits and gravy if there’s enough interest.
She said she plans to host cookie-decorating classes on Sundays or Mondays or afternoons when the shop is closed.
“If that goes over well, I’d like to do cake-decorating classes,” she said.
Frishkorn grew up in Jefferson County and is a Northwest High School graduate. She is married to Jason and has two adult daughters, Jade Ojile and Alexis Thost, as well as an 18-month-old grandson, Jakari.
She said her daughters enjoy helping her with the baking. Frishkorn also has a part-time helper, Marshall Steffan.
